Messages from the President

My First Year as President

My first year as President of the Friends has been a very busy,
challenging and rewarding year. Many changes have been made at the
Wilbraham Public Library including staffing, hours, programs, operational
support and, of course, facilities. Through it all the Friends of the
Wilbraham Public Library have partnered with the staff in making it come
together.

In addition to funding provided for adult, young adult and children’s
programs, the Friends have purchased a new state-of-the-art copy/print
system for staff and patron use, funded acquisition of a cash register to
help the staff accommodate the myriad of daily financial dealings, assisted
in program support, provide the quarterly newsletters and generally been
“extra hands” for various library happenings.

Through our membership fees, sponsored trips, the art show, and the
book sale, we provide much of the funding that helps to keep our library
running. We are working hard to attract more members to build the
support base for our work. As of June 1, 2010 we have over 700
individuals counted as members. We are looking forward to providing
even more support for new events, programming and materials. The
Board of WFOL is a fantastic group with a superb mix of talents dedicated
to doing whatever helps the Wilbraham Public Library, but ten individuals
can’t do it alone.

We need folks that will step up to help on a particular project and to offer
new ideas and aid in following up on many small tasks that bring projects
to fruition. Examples might be assisting in event publicity, helping in a
seasonal raffle, or aiding staff on select programs that are funded and
ready to go, but lack enough support staff to do them. Even a few hours
can help.

I believe that our library is a strong vital entity in our town. Please
consider helping to keep it that way by contacting the Friends if you are
willing to help in any way. I hope to establish a “pool” of helpers that can
be called on as needed. Contacts can be made via e-mail
(twin.javanet@@rcn.com ) or by mail at the Library (WPL -WFOL, 25 Crane
Park Dr, Wilb. MA 01095).
